About Me
I am a nurse by training and by passion.
I don't believe you should be in health care if your passion doesn't drive you. We are allowed in to some of the most intimate moments of people's lives-- for this we have to see the person first and the patient second. For this we must be guided by best practice and driven by our own passion.
My passion is working in trauma. I have seen trauma through the eyes of an emergency nurse, a bystander and a friend. I am currently part of an interdisciplinary team focused on trauma prevention as well as improving long term outcomes for trauma patients and their families-- aimed at getting patients back to meaningful lives following traumatic events.
The truth is trauma sometimes has tragic or life altering outcomes. People are thrown into trauma without choice and everything can change in an instant. Trauma can affect the young, the old; the risk takers, the bystanders; the healthy, the chronically ill...there are no rules. The outcomes are entirely variable and sometimes unfair. Anything I can do to make this experience more manageable, less painful and bring a person toward a meaningful life following trauma- really, is my goal and my honour and privilege as a nurse working in trauma.
